A small independent project

About RollForNames

RollForNames is a browser-based collection of original fantasy naming tools for tabletop stories, campaign notes, and creative writing.

An independent naming project

RollForNames brings together fantasy naming tools for players, game masters, and writers. Its generators combine sound fragments and short prompts stored in this project.

The automated name checks test length limits and consonant combinations. They do not establish linguistic authenticity or replace trying a name aloud at your own table.

Built for the moment before a session

Choose a naming style, generate a batch, and save the results that fit your campaign. Generation runs in the browser without an account or a generation API. Review names before commercial publication, as a generated combination may also exist elsewhere.

The site uses static pages and browser-side generation. It does not require an account, and it does not send the names you create to a server.

Original sounds, open-ended stories

Each ancestry uses syllable tables written for RollForNames. The examples are original combinations rather than copied lists. A style is a sound prompt, not a rule about a character’s background or personality.

The goal is a helpful starting point. Change a syllable, attach a family custom, or give a result a meaning your table invents.

A growing set of focused tools

The first collection covers fantasy names by ancestry, family names, towns, taverns, parties, and quick non-player character prompts. Each tool has its own page so people can start with the task they came to do.

More tools belong here only when they can offer a clear use and original material of their own.
